Salt Marsh Trail

Directions:

From Dartmouth take Cole Harbour Road going east on Highway 207. Then get in the right lane to take Bissett Road, the right lane turns right onto Bissett Rd. Travel along Bissett Road pass the large white barn and Trailer Park Boys set until you reach a marked parking lot on the left hand side of the road. There are two parking lots but they both end up on the Salt Marsh trail.

Description:

The Salt Marsh Trail is part of an old train railroad that has been transformed into a great part of the "Trans Canada Trail". The trail is therefore flat and fairly straight, accessable to most.

Since this is an out and back hike you can make the round trip of the trail of 13km or the one-way trip of 6.5km, with two cars. There are markers for every kilometer of this trail to help you keep an idea of how far you have traveled. This trail is a great way to get out on the water without a boat and makes for a very scenic walk.

The trail is in very good shape and all the bridges are vehicle quality making this a great place to bring the family, there are usually some parents and children out on their bikes on the trail. Chances are you will get a chance to see some sea birds like the Great Blue Heron while on this trail. The trail did sustain a lot of damage during hurricane Juan but it has been mostly repaired.
