Mickey Hill Pocket Wilderness

Directions:

Take Exit 22 from Highway 101; turn left onto Route 8 towards Kejimujik National Park . Travel on Route 8 for about 5 to 10 minutes until you see the sign for the wilderness park on the left.

Description:

The Mickey Hill Pocket Wilderness consists of three hiking trails: the Picnic Trail (10 min.), Beach Trail (20 min.) and Ski Trail (2 hrs.) and about 400 acres of land owned by Bowater Mersey Paper Company Ltd.

From the parking lot, there are two trail starting points that lead into the woods. The trail on the right is the Picnic Trail while the trail on the left is the start of the Beach Trail, which leads to the Ski Trail and the beach.

The Picnic Trail winds it's way through the forest along boardwalks to the river. Along side the river there are a couple of picnic tables to relax on and enjoy your surroundings. The picnic area is the only wheelchair accessible section of this pocket wilderness. From the picnic area the trail slowly bens back along the river until the trail meets the Beach Trail.

The Beach Trail begins in the parking lot and is a fairly straight path directly to a beach on Lambs Lake . While on this trail you will pass the end of the Picnic Trail and the start of the Ski Trail before getting to the lake.

The Ski Trail is well marked with small blue markers on trees and is a great trail for cross-country skiing in the winter.

For a good quick hike take the Picnic Trail first then follow the Beach Trail back out. If you’re looking for a longer hike follow the Ski Trail.
