Gibraltar Rock Loop Trail

Directions:

From Dartmouth follow Highway 107 and then Highway 7 to Musquodobit Harbour. Turn left off of Highway 7 onto Highway 357. Continue along the 357 for approximately 16km to the second parking lot for the Musquodobit Rail Trail. The trailhead is located just a few meters south of the parking lot on the rail trail.

Description:

The top of Gibraltar Rock gives you a great view of the Musquodobit River and the surrounding area, but it's a steep climb to get there. The trail begins by climbing up the side of the granite ridge through mixed forest and large rocks to the top of Gibraltar Rock. At top you can take a break and enjoy the look-off to the valley and river below.

The trail follows the top of the granite ridge to a second look-off before winding down into the trees, mossy rocks and across a small brook.

The decent is easier than the climb up, helped by sets of steps in the steep sections. The trail follows the brook down to re-join the Rail Trail which follows the Musqodobit River back to the parking lot, 1.1km away.
