Cow Bay Road Trail

Directions:

Off Highway 125 after the Louisbourg exit you will see a stop sign for a dirt road and then a brown house in the field. The dirt road is Cow Bay Road.

Description:

This trail has a unique history that you need to hear before you hike it. When the Fortress of Louisbourg was in use a farmer bought a cow from a market in Louisbourg and took it home. The next day the farmer woke to find the cow was gone. He found the cow down by the bay trying to walk home, the bay was then named Cow Bay. Locals say that since the name was chnaged to Port Morien nothing has gone right in the town.

Most of this trail was inhabited at one time as it is an aboandoned road. This trail goes straight and origianlly ran from Sydney to Cow Bay (25km). There are many side trails off the main trail but the trail we are talking about is the straight road. There is a left off the clearing near the power lines on Kytes Hill Trail. This open area was once a farm. You will see old wells and foundations as you travel along this trail.
